Dr. James E. Mazur received his BA from Dartmouth College in 1973, and his Ph.D. from Harvard in 1977. He joined Southern Connecticut State University in 1988, where he is now a full professor. In his research, he is best known for his extensive studies of choice between delayed and probabilistic reinforcers with different magnitudes, such as self-control, and his development of the titration procedure to measure indifference points in choice. For the wider audience, he is best known for his very successful teaching book Learning and Behavior, now in its 6th edition. This book has introduced incalculable numbers of students to the joys of behavior analysis. Dr. Mazur has twice served on the board of editors of the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Animal Behavior Processes, as associate editor for Learning and Behavior, and on the board of editors for the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior five times, with one term as associate editor; he is currently editor of this journal. He has also served on the boards of the Society for the Experimental Analysis of Behavior and the Society for the Quantitative Analyses of Behavior.
