Applications of Open Source and Open Science in Behavior Analysis

Elements of Open Science are increasingly encouraged by various funding agencies and academic journals. Behavior Analysts are trained to communicate many elements of research in scholarly work but study materials and data are seldom publicly archived for future review and re-evaluation. This webinar provides an introduction to the Transparency and Openness Promotion guidelines presented by the Open Science Foundation. Specifically, this workshop focuses on how Behavior Analysts can adopt these elements of Open Science using the free version control platform, Github. GitHub is reviewed as one service that can be used to archive elements of Behavior Analytic research in ways that support future replication and collaboration. In this webinar, I present an overview of Version Control options that are accessible to Behavior Analysts and demonstrate how archiving study files can be done without a background in computer programming.

At the conclusion of the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify and describe the Open Science Framework;
- Identify and apply elements of Open Science to research in Behavior Analysis;
- Demonstrate the use of GitHub in archiving elements of Behavior Analytic Research.
