Abstract: In many clinical setting, the success of ABA-based interventions requires interdisciplinary collaboration between professionals coming from a broad range of backgrounds. Notwithstanding, there sometimes is a clinical chasm between those responsible for the development of interventions and those who are responsible for their implementation. For example it is not unusual for direct support professional (DSPs) to be trained on interventions with very little information about the assessment and development process. In situations like these, DSPs may be difficult. This can impact social validity and treatment fidelity. The panel will discuss strategies they have used successfully to overcome such problems, and bridge the gap between staff responsible for developing and implementing ABA-based interventions. Experiences from interdisciplinary perspectives will be presented, including those of DSPs and Registered Behavior Technicians. |
