Abstract:

The skills deficits and behavioral excesses that can be attributed to the COVID-19 shutdown have public schools scrambling to provide appropriate supports for their students (US Department of Education, 2022). Many school districts are looking to behavior analysts to provide these much needed services. Are you thinking about transitioning your practice from a clinic- to a school-based setting? Have you already made the switch, but feel like you are in over your head? Do you struggle to build rapport with school staff? Our panel of experienced, school-based Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) will discuss (1) what you need to know as a BCBA working in or for public schools, (2) how to market yourself to school districts and build rapport with school staff, and (3) the biggest challenges you may face transitioning from the clinic to a school-based setting. Time will be dedicated at the end of the discussion for the audience to ask the panelists questions about providing effective ABA services in the public school setting. U.S. Department of Education.
